The Goose Lake International Music Festival began in Leoni Township, Michigan, on this day in 1970. Hailed as the next “Woodstock,” it featured many of the top rock music acts of the period and drew 200,000 fans. Local politicians, including Michigan’s governor were concerned about drug use and made sure that the event did not happen again.
