St. Vincent’s, the first hospital in Michigan, was opened by four members of the Sisters of Charity on this day in 1945. The facility began as a school, but converted to a hospital due to severe community need. It was one of several generous endeavors by the four Sisters of Charity that earned them a spot in the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.
