Federal Aid Road Act is approved by both houses of Congress

The rise of the automobile, especially after Henry Ford introduced the affordable Model T in 1908, paved the way for a national debate on aid for highways. The Federal Aid Road Act was approved by both houses of Congress onthis day in 1916, and would be signed into law by Woodrow Wilson a few weeks later.
