On this day in 2012, Michigan native Mitt Romney formally accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States at the 2012 Republican National Convention. He was the first Mormon ever to receive a nomination from a major party, but would go on to lose the election to Democratic candidate Barack Obama.
