Streetcars drawn by horses began to operate on Jefferson and Woodward Avenues in Detroit on this day in 1863. Free rides were offered that day to all, as 4 tiny horse-drawn cars bounced along tracks on Jefferson Avenue, from Randolph to Elmwood.
